At the Kebede Lab, we believe that improving β-cell function in diabetes may begin with enhancing insulin granule formation. Rather than focusing solely on stimulating insulin release, our work explores the upstream processes that shape insulin production — granule biogenesis, storage, and secretion. We’re particularly interested in how defects in these early steps may contribute to β-cell dysfunction in diabetes. By better understanding these mechanisms, we hope to identify new ways to support healthy insulin secretion and contribute to long-term improvements in diabetes care.
